About This Spot

Stepping into Bearded Lady feels a bit like slipping into your favorite neighborhood haunt—a relaxed bar where the energy hums just below the surface, inviting you to linger without rush. Set along a quieter stretch of Brooklyn’s Washington Avenue, it offers a casual refuge from the city’s usual clamor, where the pace is easy and the mood leans into friendly, unpretentious comfort.

The space is spacious enough to avoid feeling cramped but still intimate enough to catch snippets of laughter or the clink of glasses from nearby tables. It’s the kind of place where bartenders share smiles and suggestions with an approachable kind of confidence, making you feel part of a local rhythm rather than just a passerby.

Behind the bar, a thoughtfully curated lineup of cocktails unfolds—not just strong but crafted with a clear sense of balance and character. Whether you’re drawn to a classic Old Fashioned or daring to try a more adventurous mix, the drinks hold their own, complementing the simple but satisfying bar fare that arrives promptly to the table. The food here acts as a grounded counterpoint—a mix of comforting bites that pair well with the boldness of the cocktails, like a satisfying hot dog or a dish meant to soothe and satisfy after a busy day.

Outdoor seating offers a quiet extension of the space, especially inviting when the weather leans into those lingering late-autumn evenings. Here, you can watch Brooklyn meander by while savoring a drink that’s strong but never overwhelming. It’s not a place that demands your attention with flash, but one that rewards those who come ready to enjoy a low-key moment, tucked away from the bustle yet still connected to the city’s cadence.

For those who appreciate an unhurried spot to decompress or catch up with friends just past the workday, Bearded Lady offers a sincere and approachable blend of good drinks, simple food, and a vibe that feels like a small but welcoming secret in the heart of Brooklyn.

First off, Bearded Lady is truly an after work spot especially for the lucky few who get out of work at 3:00pm -4:00pm. The drinks are strong, just as I like it. The food menu is limited--what they do have is good enough in taste and presentation. We had nachos with black beans and some other stuff maybe white cheddar in a tangy sauce--it was fine, it balanced out the strength of the liquor. The bartender was just chill--she was not friendly but not rude either. My wife felt that she was not engaging--or more accurately she did not engage us. I agree. It's an okay spot. Might not go back anytime soon though.

While not looking for a cocktail place the extreme heat wave forced us to make a stop. This place looked the most interesting on Google Maps and glad we picked it. The server was great, he made banging suggestions and it felt like he was really vibing with all the tables he served including ours. There was plenty of space in the venue and did not feel claustrophobic. Onto the cocktails- the ginger one was a little spicer than what I wanted on a hot day but the beachcomber, and on the sever's recommendation, the Ted damson were fantastic. We even did two of the Ted ones and it looked like it was the favorite of the tables around us.

Came in for a drink while waiting for a table at the restaurant across the street. My drink was really good and the drink menu overall is really creative. Excited to come back. The nachos looked really good.

Good service & decent drinks. Drinks and food came out fast. There were a couple employees who were working as bartenders/servers but also playing on the pool table with customers which was a little odd. The drinks were decent— the menu is creative and the drinks are strong, but were pretty one-note in terms of flavor. The grilled cheese was delicious— the addition of pickles was fun.

Went to a friend's birthday celebration. They had small area in the back reserved for us. The drink menu is expansive and inventive. The Burning Bush drink was worth the trip!
